About the event

On June 20th at noon, the Irish Cultural Centre and the Consulate General of Ireland in Boston will be holding a Bloomsday celebration commemorating the life and work of Irish novelist James Joyce. This event is free and open to the public.

An afternoon of song, stories and performances featuring :

Dr. Katherine O'Callaghan. Dr. O'Callaghan lectures on James Joyce, modernism, Irish literature and the role of music in novels at UMass Amherst. She received her PhD from UCD and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the International James Joyce Foundation.

The Here Comes Everybody Players. The Here Comes Everybody Players, a Boston, Massachusetts-based theater group, focuses on dramatizations of the work of James Joyce, and other Irish authors, poets and playwrights. They use the medium of drama to make Joyce's unusual and sometimes linguistically challenging writings accessible to audience members who may not be familiar with Joyce or who may find solitary reading of the books somewhat intimidating. Their performances not only celebrate the richness of Joyce's unique language, but also bring to vivid life the humor and humanity of his characters and stories.

Vice Consul Shane Caffrey. Shane will briefly contextualize the historical and political background of Joyce's Ireland.

Maureen McNally. ICC member & volunteer, Maureen McNally will give a brief presentation on the life of James Joyce.
